The sixth annual Malibu Canyon Dirt Dash (formerly the Salvation Army 5k) returns September 24, 2011 with the 5K MUD RUN: complete with awesome obstacles and a mud-tastic mud pit at the end!

Join us for a scenic trail run (5k or 10k) on the trails around Malibu Creek State Park, and the new 5k Mud Run (with rope climbs, swings, bridge crossings and mud pit). This event is for everyone: whether you are a walker, runner, adventurer, or somewhere in between! Event is limited to 1000 participants, so enter early!

5k Course Description
• The 5k course dips in and around Camp Mt. Crags, Camp Gilmore and Malibu Creek State Park before an awesome finish back at camp. Their are some small climbs and descents - perfect for the beginner and challenging enough for advanced athletes. The course is 70/30 between trails and paved roads.

10k Course Description
• The 10k course follows the 5k course with dips in and around Camp Mt. Crags, Camp Gilmore and ventures deep into Malibu Creek State Park before an awesome finish back at camp. Their are some small climbs and descents - perfect for the intermediate and challenging enough for advanced athletes. The course is 90/10 between trails and paved roads.

5k Mud Run Description + Obstacles
The 5k Mud Run follows the same 5k course description above, but with the addition of some AWESOME OBSTACLES to be unveiled every four days until race day!!!

#1 - Trailer Park - After a 1 mile run you need to climb, scramble and jump over the trailer!
#2 - Haybale Hurdle - 50 yards of quad busting jumps on the fire roads behind camp!
#3 - Hang on Honey! - The only way to go is up. Don't look down! This rope climb goes up 25' to the top.
#4 - Tower of Tires - Scramble up the tires, but don't fall down the mountain!
#5 - Slanty Banty - Hike/climb up the hill and then it's a sideways scramble above Wilderness Camp!
#6 - Criss Cross Crash - Left, right, up over - choose wisely or you could take a tumble!
#7 - Tunnels of Terror - 25 feet of arm busting, tummy squiggling torture!
#8 - Wall of Pain - can you jump the wall?
#9 - Pain in the A Frame - Save some strength to climb the rock wall!
#10 - Mud Mania - Time to cool off in the mud and dive to the finish line!

If you're part of a team, your team captain can help decide on a fundraising goal for the group and motivate your team to reach it. If you're fundraising as an individual, you get to set your own fundraising goal! How the heck do I get to the race?

From 101 Ventura Fwy:
Exit Las Virgenes Rd. - Go towards the beach. Drive 5 miles then turn right into Tapia Park (the turn is right before the light at Piuma). There is ample parking within Tapia Park (CA Parks charge $12.00 for parking - please try to have exact change). Then follow signs to Salvation Army Camp.

From PCH Malibu: Near Pepperdine University:
Turn right onto Malibu Canyon Road. Drive 5 miles then turn left into Tapia Park. There is ample parking within Tapia Park (CA Parks charge $12.00 for parking - please try to have exact change). Then follow signs to Salvation Army Camp.

Leave yourself plenty of time to park, get your transition area set up and to relax!

Pitch in and help put on a GREAT event!

Volunteers are integral and crucial elements in making our events viable. Volunteer tasks include, among others: providing water and food, keeping runners on course, cheering runners on, keeping spirits up and making the race safer for everyone! We guarantee a great time and the time spent will be worthwhile.

You don't have to be a runner to volunteer at the event. If you have simple words of encouragement and are able to help direct runners or hand out water, you are valuable to us!

In exchange you'll get goodies (T-Shirts/Goody Bag/Swag) and refreshments, and more importantly, you will be rewarded with the pride in knowing you helped to make the event happen, and that everyone finished because of the help you offered.
